Royal Tyrell Museum Learning Centre
- Building Description – Learning Centre @ RTM
- Building Location – Drumheller, Alberta
- Size – 1485 sq.m. (16,000 sq.ft.)
- Design Response – This addition to the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller houses classrooms for a variety of learning projects, including a laboratory to study paleontological conservation methods. Designed to accommodate all levels of teaching from elementary to post-secondary the classrooms can be combined or used singly for a variety of types of instruction. One of the goals of the facility was to provide distance learning and remote linkages with actual dig sites around the world.
- The design is an allusion to the landscape of the area. Angled glazing in deep blue against the banded terrazzo block cladding mimics the sharp blue of the sky as it cuts in among the varicoloured hoodoo rock formations of the surrounding badlands.
